Pet Foods Recall

On March 16th a Menu Foods, a large pet food manufacturer, released a press release stating that they were recalling large quantities of dog and cat foods manufactured under fifty-six brand names.  The recall was specific to product run dates and batch codes of canned dog and cat foods.  There were no dry foods affected.  Zamzows immediately checked our stock of pet foods and pulled all affected brands from the shelf regardless of the run date or batch code.  The only brands that we carry that were effected by the recall were Iams and Eukanuba canned foods.  Our Zamzows Professional and Grandma Z's are not manufactured by Menu Foods, or affected by the recall.  After careful inspection of all effected product, we discovered that we had purchased 6 cases of Iams canned foods that were affected by the recall.  5 of these cases had not yet been sold and were pulled permanently from our system.  1 case of 24 cans of Iams active maturity Beef flavor with the specific batch code had been sold prior to the recall.  We are currently trying to locate the customers that purchased this product.    Rest assured that Zamzows takes your pet's health very seriously will always do everything possible to ensure their safety.  All pet foods on Zamzows store shelfs has been meticulously searched and all product has been cleared.  Below you will find information on the pet food recall.  If you have any further questions, please contact us.

Thank you,

This is how to read a product code and batch number on Iams petfood cans and pouches

How to read a product code...

To read can product codes, refer to the bottom of the can.

The first four numbers of the second line of numbers are the date code, and the following four numbers indicate the plant code.

For example, if the second line begins with four numbers from 6339 to 7073 followed by the Plant Code 4197, the the product should be recalled.

For foil pouches, the code numbers are located at the lower left hand corner on the back of the pouch. The date and plant codes appear in the third group of numbers, beginning a 11-digit sequence.
