Chicken jerky treats linked to mystery illnesses, deaths in dogs - article from MSNBC |
Chicken jerky treats may be to blame for dozens of new reports of mysterious illnesses and some deaths in dogs, prompting a renewed warning for pet owners by the Food and Drug Administration. At least 70 dogs have been sickened so far this year after reportedly eating chicken jerky products imported from China, FDA officials said. That’s up from 54 reports of illness in 2010. Some of the dogs have died, according to the anecdotal reports from pet owners and veterinarians.... |

The History of the Sarplaninac Dog Breed |
Sarplaninac “Shar-pla-nee-natz” is an ancient breed of livestock flock (mostly sheep, goats and some cattle) guard dog that originated in the southeastern mountain range of Serbia (southern Kosovo) and the northwest part of Macedonia. In 1939 the dogs were registered with the Federation Cynologique Internationale as the Illyrian Shepherd dog- Sarplanina after the Sar Mountains, where the breed is common. The Sarplaninac is considered to be one of the oldest and original Molossers believed to be possibly 2500 years old. Although the exact ancestry is unknown some have theories as to the origin descending from the Molosser dogs of Epirus, the ancient tribes that inhabited the Balkan Peninsula. It is possible that these dogs came from the great Tibetan Mastiffs who most likely developed from Tibetan wolves... |

What is Vetericyn and how does it work? |
Neutrophils are the most abundant type of white blood cells in humans and animals and form an integral part of the immune system. Neutrophils are created on demand by the body to counter single pathogens like a bacteria or virus. Single cell pathogens cannot regulate their oxygen content like mammal cells can. So when these white blood cells surround the pathogen, they generate and release an oxy-chlorine compound. This process is called an “oxidative burst” and kills the pathogen.
Vetericyn contains compounds similar to those produced by these white blood cells to destroy the pathogen. But it does not harm other surrounding tissue and actually creates an environment that is most conducive to healing...

Why is my Goldfish floating upside down after feeding?
If you fish floats upside down after feeding this may be that your fish may have a swim bladder disorder. There really is no cure for this particular ailment and it is not contagious to the other fish. I would recommend feeding your fish in smaller quantities 1-2 times a day with a Koi/Goldfish Pond Pellet food (size appropriate). The pellets are specially formulated for your vegetation adoring fish. They contain very little meat protein, if any, which will make digestion much easier for the goldfish. This may not be a complete remedy for the ailment, but I believe it will bring some relief... |
