My Cat Is Pulling Out Her Hair! Why?

Know when it's time to take your cat to the vet

Question
My cat is pulling out her hair.  She has chewed her fanny smooth, joints, and now starting on her stomach.  What do I do?  I have tried putting the other cat outside at night to give her some of her own space.  I have also tried keeping music off, and paying her more attention.  At first it worked, now it is really bad.  Help please.  I cannot afford to take her to a Vet.  Now she will be on my lap purring and jump off and start chewing and pulling out her hair.  What on earth do I do with this cat I love?  Any help would be appreciated.

Answer
This is a question for a vet. I think its parasites or ringworm. This is not an over the counter remedy. Cats will usually only chew if there is an irritation on or in the skin. They tend not to be habitual chewers or self mutilating creatures. Various causes of skin irritation can be: Fleas, mites and lice- usually there are some visible signs of a parasite infestation (eggs, insects, insect droppings). Some animals have allergies to food, grasses and even household detergents. Skin Fungal infections can cause severe itching and hair loss (some types of fungal infections are contagious to humans and other animals).

The cat needs to be seen by a Vet as soon as possible. Skin irritation and hair loss is a sign that all is not well. The local Humane Society may have a Vet Clinic that could assist you in getting the proper diagnoses and treatment for your cat.
