How To Grow Holly Shrubs in Alkaline Soil

What to do if your soil is too Alkaline

Question
My question(s) is in regard to the use of Zamozws Thrive on our evergreen holly shrubs along the east side of the house.  The Holly Shrubs hadn't been doing well so I had the soil tested last year and found it was too alkaline.

1. Will Thrive alone be adequate or will a specific acidic supplement also be needed?

2.  What are your recommendations as to when  and how often  to apply Zamzows Thrive to the holly?

Answer
Zamzows Thrive (Formally known as Save a Tree) applied at the rate for shrubs will start the process of feeding your holly.  However thrive alone will not correct the soil issue.  You will have to apply either sulfur or gypsum around the shrubs to lower the Ph so the holly can pick up the minerals from the soil.  Sulfur or gypsum should be applied twice per year, in the spring and fall.  It may take several years to correct the soil problem, but you should notice some results this year.
