The only way to know if you are properly watering your lawn is to measure with a straight sided can. Place the cans in various parts of your lawn. Time your sprinklers to see how long it will take to collect a 1/2 inch of water in the can.

When it comes to mowing lawns in the heat of summer, you want to adjust your lawn mower to its highest setting or about 4 1/2 inches in height. This taller height will help keep the moisture in the soil.
