Lawn Advice on the best way to get rid of wild flowers
Question Two years ago I planted a bunch of wildflower seeds (big mistake). I pulled out all the plants this fall and put in butterfly bushes and bulbs instead. I am now seeing millions of sprouts coming up. What is the best option to get rid of these? Also, I am wondering if I apply a pre-emergent will it hurt the bulbs I have planted? Answer To control the wildflower seedlings your best option is to go out and weed the area very well and get rid of what is already up and growing. Then apply a preemergent to control the seeds that will germinate during the rest of the fall and winter. You will have to apply the preemerent again in the spring. Weeding again before application and after you planted any other flower in that bed. Once you apply the preemergent you can not disturb the soil as this will cause the product to quit working. Preemergent will not bother what is already up and growing. So weed very well and then use the preemergent to control germination for the next three to four months.
