Bio-Idaho Canine College

My name is Amber Rollins, owner and head trainer for Idaho Canine College. I have been working in the pet industry for the past ten years where I have been collecting animal related skills and refining my professional goals. My canine career began while attending the University of California, Davis. While studying for my degree in Animal Science as a student athlete, I also volunteered with the Yolo County k-9 unit. This experience lead to a position at a police and working dog kennel where I learned the basics of dog training.   I very quickly realized that veterinary medicine was not for me; I wanted to understand the psychology of animals, specifically canines. I quickly changed to a psychology major, and graduated in 2003.

Upon graduation I had the opportunity to attend a six-month groomer-training program through Petco. Not wanting to pass up the opportunity to work with dogs every day I attended to the program and graduated in late 2003. I have been a full time groomer ever since. However training was still my calling. I began volunteering for the Western States Police Canine Association training days, where I learned more about what it takes to train very powerful dogs. I was introduced to a variety of strong breeds and temperaments and the various strategies used to train them. I was able to learn from, as well interact with many different dogs with vastly different training problems and goals. In order to learn more about training from the perspective of the handler I also began training my personal dog in agility.

I moved to Idaho in 2004, where I continued to grow my grooming business at. Zamzows on Chinden Blvd., which has been my grooming home since 2005. While continuing to volunteer with law enforcement dogs in the area, I have been fortunate enough to be able so work with some of the best trainers in the treasure valley. With their help I have been able to expand my training knowledge to include detection work, and learn a variety of different training techniques. I also continued to work on my handling skills, training my personal dog in the sport of sheep herding.

In preparation for sharing my knowledge, I most recently spent three weeks in Maryland working with a successful trainer. I spent my time learning how to effectively communicate with owners regarding various training needs. It is my goal to teach pet families how to live harmoniously with their beloved companions.
